Veteran Detective - Logic Puzzle
You've now been on the force for decades, a grizzled vet ready to retire soon. Hopefully. Unfortunately, it's hard to take joy in the event, in fact it's hard to take joy in anything even this time of year. There's another serial killer on the loose and they've decided to play some games, like the ones the reindeer never let Rudolph play.
Every other day this December someone has died, all the way through the thirteenth and the only clues as to who are written in bits of scraps your useless department has strung together. Fortunately you were trained for this by your mentor, who has long since retired. So it's up to you.
Each victim died every odd day from December 1st to December 13th.
The culprit gave them sick nicknames like "My Child", "My Lady", "My Lord", "My Love", "My Maiden", "My Mother", and "My Sister"
Each victim was reported to receive a present the day AFTER they died. 36 eggs, an asian pear, a pair of dance tickets, a drum set, an engagement ring, a jade bull, and a book on the ugly duckling.
Each victim's cause of death was unique: burst pipe explosion, drowning in a lake, eyes pecked out by birds, milk was poisoned, pushed off a cliff, shot by an arrow, stabbed with a tree branch.
There's a theme to this, you just know it. But... what?
Lastly, you have your clues, gathered by reports from bystanders and other cops but they're scattered about and do not make full sense.
1. The victim who died due to a burst pipe died before the victim pushed off a cliff.
2. The victim who drowned died four days after the victim whose eyes were pecked out by a bird.
3. “My Child” did not receive thirty-six eggs as a present
4. “My Lord” either died being shoved off a cliff or received the ugly duckling book as a present.
5. None of these match with each other: the victim who was poisoned, the engagement ring gift, the dance tickets gift, the victim on the first day, the victim on the third day, the victim on the seventh day, or “My Lord”
6. The victim who was stabbed by a tree branch died eight days earlier than “My Maiden”
7. The victim who was shot by an arrow didn’t receive dance tickets.
8. The victim who received the engagement ring either died on the ninth day or was “My love”
9. The victim who died on the ninth day did not receive the Ugly Duckling Book.
10. The victim who received the Asian Pear as a gift either was shot by an arrow or was “My Sister”
11. The victims whose eyes were pecked out by a bird died two days after “My Sister”
12. Between the victim who died on the third day and the one stabbed by a tree branch, one is “My Sister” and one received 36 eggs.
13. Between “My Lady” and the victim who received the engagement ring, one died on the fifth day and the other was a victim of a pipe explosion
14. “My Lord” received the Jade Bull.
The objective is just to solve the logic puzzle. Bonus credit (see also: just bragging rights) to whoever figures out the theme.
