Stalwart the Paladin is traveling with his group - The Murder Hobos. While he usually sticks close to them in cities and towns–to prevent them from killing the townsfolk–unfortunately duty calls him and he must visit a temple nearby to receive a message from their church.
In the mere hours they are gone, Stalwart comes back to find all four of his party members arrested for a murder of some kind. They each speak at once in a scattering of statements, leaving Stalwart to have to piece together what happened based on a few clues.
To properly pay for each party member’s bail, Stalwart much figure out:
The order the each party member killed in
Why they killed
How they killed
He knows:
There were four victims.
All four party members that weren’t with him killed: Barbarian, Bard, Rogue, Warlock
The reasons for killing were: it was accidental, the victim attacked first, the victim was a sacrifice, the victim tried to steal from the party member
The causes of death were: choked, stabbed with a dagger, attacked by a pack of wolves, and poisoned
The bard was the last to kill.
The warlock killed someone right after the victim who tried to steal from another party member
The Rogue claims it was an accident
The victim who was choked to death died right before the sacrificed victim.
The Rogue killed right after another party member stabbed someone with a dagger.
The victim who died last, the accidental kill, and the sacrificial kill are separate murders
The third victim was not killed by a pack of wolves
{The Solution}
Stalwart groans at his party members and turns to the guards to pay for each of them.
"The barbarian killed first, choked to death a thief who was trying to take from us."
"The warlock killed next, a sacrifice to whatever patron he serves with a dagger."
"The rogue's kill was supposedly an accident. It was third and done by poison."
"The bard was attacked by his victim and he sent the wolves at the attacker. The bard's victim died last."
Having properly paid for their bail, Stalwart tells the party that that money came out of their reward money, punishing them in the best way they understood. By attacking their pockets. He guided them away, towards their next adventure.
