Everyone on DRG receives three presents from Mao on Christmas Eve. Each present is actually a puzzle, and you need to solve them in order to get the final solution! The solvers of each puzzle will be listed separately, and the one who solves all three of them first will win first place.
Inside the first present is a very peculiar chessboard.
It is the wrong size for playing chess, the tiles are either white, red or blue and some of them have numbers on them. There’s also 17 black and white chess pieces inside the box, including two black pawns, three white pawns, one black rook, two white rooks, one knight of each color, two black bishops, one white bishop and a king and a queen of each color.
It also comes with a note that appears to be some sort of a logic puzzle.
THE FIRST PUZZLE:
Inside the first present is a very peculiar chessboard.
It is the wrong size for playing chess, the tiles are either white, red or blue and some of them have numbers on them. There’s also 17 black and white chess pieces inside the box, including two black pawns, three white pawns, one black rook, two white rooks, one knight of each color, two black bishops, one white bishop and a king and a queen of each color.
It also comes with a note that appears to be some sort of a logic puzzle.
Match the pieces correctly with a tile on the chessboard based on these instructions;
1. There are no chess pieces on the colored or the numbered tiles.
2. Neither of the kings are in check.
3. There are no chess pieces on the sixth row (from the top).
4. The center of the chessboard is occupied either by the black knight, the white king or the black rook.
5. Both queens are on the same row as their respective king. However, the white queen is east of her king, and the black queen is west of her king.
6. A white rook stands in one of the corners of the chessboard. The other three corners are unoccupied. The same rook threatens the black rook.
7. The three rooks are all on the first two rows of the chessboard.
8. A white pawn is between a white rook and the white queen on the same column, but is next to neither one.
9. The two knights are next to each other. Neither of them threatens any other piece.
10. The third row has the highest number of chess pieces. The lowest place in terms of the number of chess pieces goes to the sixth row. The penultimate number of chess pieces is shared by the fourth, the eighth and the ninth rows.
11. There is a black bishop next to the black rook.
12. The ninth column has no more than three chess pieces.
13. There is a black bishop on the ninth row. It is not next to a knight.
14. The white queen threatens the black knight. She doesn’t threaten anyone else.
15. Two of the squares next to the white king are threatened by the black knight.
16. The square west of the white king is threatened by the black queen, a black bishop and a black pawn.
17. The square southeast of the white king is threatened by a black bishop and a black rook.
18. The white knight is one square away from their starting position. They started on the ninth row from the top.
19. One of the white rooks threatens only the black queen and the black bishop.
20. The seventh and the fifth rows have the second highest number of chess pieces.
21. The first and the second rows have the same amount of chess pieces.
22. The seventh column has two chess pieces only.
23. Neither of the white rooks is on the second column.
24. The black queen threatens a white rook and a white bishop.
25. Neither of the kings is next to a pawn.
26. Out of the three white pawns, two are next to an enemy.
27. The white bishop is on the second column. There are no other pieces on that column.
28. There is a black pawn south of the black queen on the same column.
Submit the answer to Mao for grading in Discord DMs and open the next box of mysteries. You’ll need the correct solution to the first puzzle to solve the next one.1. There are no chess pieces on the colored or the numbered tiles.
