A letter arrives in your mailbox...
Congratulations, recruits!
Welcome to Game 96, our triumphant return to interactive murder mystery entertainment.
--- Important Note ---
As you may have realized, this game will draw heavily from Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky (in what may be the most ambitious Chunsoft crossover game to date). You do not need any knowledge of PMD: EoS to participate. However, it is recommended (but not mandatory) that you have some familiarity with Pokémon (such as species, abilities, and mechanics of moves). If you’ve played even one of the main series Pokémon games you should have more than enough knowledge!
This game will use 6 nightly actions; Vulpix will be responsible for all nightly actions. Please PM your actions to them through either DRG or Discord. Action results will be sent every 24 hours from the start of Deadly.
There will be activity-related rules, as follows:
You are required to:
1. Be active for at least 4/6 actions during any Night that you are alive.
2. Investigate at least one area during any Deadly.
3. Post at least your alibi and investigation results during any Trial. (Preferably not copy-pasted, but we get it)
4. Vote during any Trial. You will be given the option to abstain.
If you are unable to do any of these things, please let one of your hosts know in advance. If you are inactive without telling a host beforehand, you will receive a warning. If you are still inactive after the warning, you will be removed from the game. You don't want to let Wigglytuff down, do you?
We will be making use of the following mechanics, in addition to the DRG Standard Procedure:
Action 0
Between Daily and Deadly there will be Action 0, which will allow the Blackened the option to take a day or two to prepare their murder. Each living player will be sent a PM explaining roughly what they did and who they saw during Action 0.
Status Conditions
Like in Pokémon games, certain conditions may make life more difficult. The status conditions in this game include paralysis, poison, burn, and sleep. Paralysis prevents the inflicted from leaving a room for one turn. Poison causes a player to spend the action this condition was inflicted and the next action feeling very sick, possibly vomiting uncontrollably. Burn prevents the inflicted Pokémon from using any moves for one turn, including passive moves. Sleep prevents the inflicted from performing an action.
Moves and Abilities
Here's where the magic happens! All players will be provided with a unique moveset after signups have completed. A full list of each Pokémon's moveset and ability, along with a brief description of their effects, will be publicly available. Moves and abilities may be used in ways you wouldn't expect from the original games, so get creative! Each Pokémon will have four move slots, three of which will be filled at the start.
...Hold on, only three? If you want to fill that fourth slot, you'll have to find...
Hidden Machines
While exploring Treasure Town, you may stumble across a Hidden Machine (HM) which will permanently provide a new move to the first Pokémon (with an available move slot) to touch it. You will be told what they are and what they do at the start of each daily, and it’s your responsibility to find and use them! There are no restrictions as to which types of Pokémon can benefit from what HMs; it's a free-for-all, baby! There will be 2 HMs hidden at the beginning of each Daily. No Pokémon may have more than one HM, and there's no forgetting or trading—you're stuck with what you get!
3-Credit Search: Move Detective
During Deadly, each player will get 3 credits to search (which reset with every Deadly, Toasty). As usual, you may spend 1 credit to scan an area or 2 credits to do an in-depth search. 1 additional credit may be spent on any search action already being taken to confer the benefit of the Move Detective! This handy dandy little gizmo detects whether a move has been used on a particular object or Pokémon. It will not discern which move has been used specifically—only whether the subject has been directly affected by any move during that Night.
Spirits
A Pokémon who dies (for whatever strange reason) will return as a Spirit, forced to wander Treasure Town unseen by the living, with only their comrades-in-death for company. Spirits will be allowed to take only 3 actions during Nightly, resolved every 48 hours. During Daily, the dead will post in their own Graveyard Roleplay sub-board, where they can freely explore the town at their leisure. Death being the great equalizer, Spirits will not be able to make use of any moves or abilities*—they are, after all, mere shadows of life given form through shared suffering. Spirits cannot post in regular trials, nor can they sign up to be Blackened.
--- VERY Important Note ---
The mechanics and rules listed above are subject to change at any time.
We, the Hosts, solemnly swear that any rule-change will be accompanied by a public announcement explaining what was changed as soon as such a change occurs.
