Well, I do believe it's been long enough. You've all had a chance to take a look around, yes? Then let's begin. Please reconvene at the graveyard.
When the guests all arrive, their attention is brought to a clearing near the middle of the graveyard which is suspiciously devoid of graves. As they ponder this mysterious plot of land, they suddenly feel the earth beneath their feet tremble, as the bare spot lurches and bulges upward, before finally being breached by some large stone object! The object rises higher and higher, revealing at last a giant stone mausoleum, whose door is carved with the likeness of a two-headed goddess, her body perfectly bisected by the split of the door.
The guests look on, unsure of what to do, when the doors begin to slowly creak open. Skelly gently pushes them all in before stepping inside along with them, and closes the door behind him. He holds up a dim lantern and pulls a lever, causing the entire building to shake. The guests stumble slightly as they feel the floor begin a rapid descent—deep, deep underground. They feel their ears pop. They stumble once more when they suddenly stop at a plain set of double doors. Skelly opens them and beckons the guests outward...
With great trepidation, they step out into a large, gothic chamber with a high vaulted ceiling. Skelly takes a seat on a small stool near the wall. In the centre of the room, 16 podiums stand arranged in a circle, facing inward, each with one of the guests' names on it, save for one. One podium, however, is occupied by a tall tombstone bearing the name and simple engraved portrait of Madeline. Almost on instinct, each guest takes a place at their appropriate podium, nervously looking around at everyone else.
One of them is a murderer, after all.
They may not know exactly why they're here. I will elucidate. Their goal is to determine, for lack of a better word, whodunnit. By discussing amongst themselves, presenting evidence, giving testimony, and resolving arguments, they must ultimately uncover the truth behind the death of Madeline the mountain climber, and finally vote for the one whom they believe is the culprit. Should they vote correctly, as decided by a simple majority, the culprit will be appropriately punished for their misdeed. Should they vote incorrectly, however, the culprit alone shall escape punishment.
Well then, without further ado...
Let the trial begin.
Trial 1 will last 48 hours from the creation of this thread. Should there be a unanimous vote earlier than that, it will end prematurely.
If the majority of players wish to prolong the trial further by the end of this period, a further period of time of up to 24 hours will be added, at the hosts' discretion.
You may ask questions of Skelly or The Narrator. Neither will ever tell a deliberate falsehood. Both reserve the right to ignore or refuse any question at their discretion. Please treat them with respect.
Above all, have fun!
