So it begins....
15 strangers ride in a carriage down a long stone path on a crisp February evening. The carriage stops at a large wrought iron gate, and passes through as it opens. It comes to a halt again at the foot of a looming mansion, and the passengers disembark. The carriage drives away as soon as the last person steps off. The door of the house creaks open, and a small skeleton holding a lantern pokes his head out.

The door of the house creaks open, and a small skeleton holding a lantern pokes his head out.
“Oh! Come in, guests!” the skeleton beckons.
Enter if you dare… you’re in for a scare!
Upon entering, the guests see that the foyer has signs of a rodent roaming about. At the top of the stairs leading upwards is an orange cat, but it runs and hides as soon as the strangers step in the door.
Ahahahah, you’ve entered the house! Now the fun can begin. Too bad you can’t get out!
The door slams shut behind everyone. The girl with light blue hair turns and goes to open it again, only to find there is no doorknob on the inside!
“Oh, my apologies,” says the skeleton, scurrying over to the door. “As I’m sure you’ve noticed, there isn’t any way for you to open this door from the inside…”
“But you opened it up to greet us, didn’t you?” asks the tall young man in the black blazer.
“Yes! This door does open for me. So if you would like to explore the grounds, you are welcome to do so. Just ask me and I will open the front door for you. You have access to the main floor and to the estate property surrounding the house. The gate, unfortunately, does not open from the inside. Not even for me!” the skeleton explains. “I suggest you all get acquainted with each other and explore at your leisure. I do ask that you do not try to venture upstairs at this time, or into the basement. This mansion is very old, so I cannot guarantee the safety of those places yet… I am working to fix them up for your stay. If you have any questions, just call out for Skelly! For that is my name.” Without another word, he takes his lamp and runs upstairs.

The strangers begin to take note of each other; they notice they are each carrying a letter. As they open their mouths to speak, the lights flicker and grow dim. The entire building shakes for a moment before the lights go out completely—
—and turn back on a few seconds later. What was that? It didn't feel... natural.
The strangers eventually find their way to what appears to be a large living room, where 15 sleeping bags have been set up. It looks like this is where they'll be sleeping for now.
On a small, cluttered table, they see a neatly wrapped gift box, tied with a darling red ribbon. Looking inside, they find a small plush teddy bear.
