"Showing this to everybody'll grow distrust among us like a farm crop. That's exactly what Defective wanted when he placed it here, I think. Goes completely against your goal of having as many people to trust as possible, but..."

Joy sighs. "We have to show the others, aye? We cannae have them wandering about completely clueless on this. That has to be more dangerous than not knowing at all."

"I see." Naix looks up at the large house for a moment. "The next numbered doors will be found soon, and eventually this death will have to happen. I will, relax, for the time being."

She goes to one of the outdoor tables by the pool and barbecue areas, taking a seat in a comfortable chair.

He glances out the shed. "Specifically for me, Naix I think is the best choice from Room 6. We can show April too. I suspect she would know something more. Aoi and Hypnos are trustworthy but I worry about their reaction." It'd likely be similar to his. "Neo though... he's the one I'm most suspicious of but I don't want to think the worst of him yet."

Guess he was a bit too desperate to get his suspicions out to someone.

"So, we'll leave them out of the discussion. Willnae lie, they're smart, but I wouldnae expect one to catch me if I fell."

Joy holds the note in his hand, reading it over again, before he continues.

"The others through my door were Emerald, Chief and Da Rat... Cannae with a right mind tell you that Da Rat would handle the news well. Emerald seems tae... have a bad history wae betrayals. And Chief - well, I don't know much about him, tae be honest. Absolutely one of the brighter bulbs in the bunch, though."

"And I think we'll both agree to no tell Jupiter. Don't feel like she'd handle it aw that well, either."

"I can say that if Chief is the traitor, he's really good at acting. He was the one who was trying to first break the rules while unscrewing the beds with some pocket change. So if we include him, that'd be April, Naix, and Chief?" Were they really so limited? Well, they could always reveal to others later, no way to take back a secret.

He picks the note up and holds it out to Joy. "Want to hold onto this, or want me to? I think I'm going to try and find Naix either way."

No. The floor begun to shake, revealing a staircase down. Joy and Guertena make their way down, finding the [∅] door. Additionally, there is another letter on the wall.


"To you 13 who remain. Know that there are 2 traitors in your group. Most sincerely, Defective."

“So do the traitors know they’re traitors?” Emerald asks. “Or was their memory wiped or something?”

Joy stares up at the staircase the two descended in order to reach the Null door. "And mind you take a wee five minutes to sit down after that, aye? Looks like we've got more doors coming up." He points back to the Null door. "Have some rest while you've got the chance. You willnae get anywhere running on fumes, alright?"

"Dear god! Don't sneak up on me like that!" Guertena let's out a yelp and clutches the note to his chest. He stares at Emerald for a few moments before looking at the note and processing what she said. "I can't imagine you can be a traitor and not know. But if that's the case, then at the very least we can trust them while they don't know. Please, though, Emerald, we're trying not to tell too many people. We're trying to avoid causing panic."

And ironically, her sudden appearance made her a lot more suspicious in his eyes. That wasn't fair, but he wasn't perfect.

"I will... I will go find Naix. Again, keep this on the down low."

Guertena hurries out of the shed in pursuit of Naix. Who is... pretty much right out side. Finding her so quickly made him jump again, his nerves all tangled. Which was silly, he told himself. This place was so small it wouldn't be hard to find anyone.

Secrets would be hard to keep.

Either way, he walks up to Naix's side. "Hey, Joy and I found this in the shed. We wanted to show it to those we can trust. Considering what April told us, though, in Room 6, I figured it was best to not spread it around too much."

Naix looks over at Guertena, listening to his explanation of what he'd found. She opens his note to read it carefully, and she rests it on the table once she's finished. "I am among those you've chosen to place your trust in then." She folds the letter closed and hands it back to Guertena. "So you are aware, with Neo's addition to the group, there will be a mandatory death at some point. April and Jupiter seem to have recognized this omen immediately."

Guertena's stomach turns and the first time in a long time he wishes he had a cigarette. "Can't one of the deaths that already happened count? Why would someone else need to die when so many have already?"

He pauses, so many more questions on his mind. Why them? Why did Neo even have to join their group if it just meant another would die? What was the purpose of all of this? But not only was it pointless to ask--Naix certainly didn't know the answers--but it just came off as whining.

Instead, he takes Joy's advice and just kinda collapses into a chair. "This whole thing is exhausting. How do you manage to stay so stoic throughout all of this?"

Naix shakes her head. "The observers have been putting us through trials from the beginning. They call those of us who pass each round 'Worthy', so their goal seems to be finding those with the greatest minds from their test subjects."

When Guertena asks how she stays composed, Naix has a brief response. "To that, I ask you a question in return. The simulation theory. Have you heard of it?"

Guertena shakes his head. "I can't say I have. My major is in art history. Is the simulation theory um..." Oh he'd heard a couple of classmates mention something once. "The idea we're not real but a simulation and when we go to sleep we're actually awake in the real world? Something like that?" Considering his dreams, he certainly hoped that was fake.

Naix looks thoughtfully at Guertena. "The simulation theory states that the world is an artificial simulation of reality created by someone or something. It's a false world constructed by specific rules, by a program. And if it is made by a program, there must by necessity be imperfections, edges, or seams. To find these seams, or to create them, is my objective.

Think back to the first trial we were faced with, the ancient tomb. Partway through, I was no longer in the room, and you and the others later found me back at the starting room with April. How was I able to leave the tomb with the only exit sealed off? It isn't impossible. If a seam was torn, that is..."



Naix places her hands in this position. "My words come across as nonsense to most, but they are the ideological truth. This certain understanding of the universe is how I am able to remain composed. Having answered Guertena's initial question, she closes her explanation. "If you tear at the seams of a cloth, it will unravel, and a hole will be created. Thusly, I will tear at the seams of the program until it is unraveled and its people are emancipated. That is my ultimate goal."
