Mini 70 - Trial

The first day of ranger school is almost over. As the sun begins to set, each of you reflect on your day. Well, all except one. As four of the students group up, they realize one is missing and go search for him. At the dock of the Pledge Stone, a body has been discovered.

Floyd, surrounded by Bidoof, is now a ghost.

The proper authorities are alerted and they begin their investigation. But your team of four students and one ghost student has already done a private investigation of your own. While the officers question the teachers, you believe you can solve this case with an intense class trial. All four (plus one ghost) students go to Classroom A and begin the trial of the ultimate engineer mechanic's murder.

Floyd's Body: Floyd's body is on the dock. His clothing and hair are soaked. His neck is broken, and his body is inflicted with the paralysis status condition. His school styler is also on his person.

Crime Scene: The Pledge Stone has been moved, revealing an underground room. The normal pokemon are here. An additional three Bidoof surround Floyd's body, and their fur coats are soaked.

Strange Letter: A soaked letter was found in Floyd's pocket. Its message reads to meet at the Main Outdoors for a conversation.

Captured Pokemon: The following pokemon are currently captured by student stylers: a Pikachu, a Pichu, four Bidoof, a Gastly, and a Zubat.

School Styler: The school styler can capture any pokemon on school grounds. Once a captured pokemon uses an attacking move, it returns to its original location.

Teachers' Alibis: The teachers stayed in the school building all day. Their school styler inventory is currently at six less than at the start of the day. They claim to have written no letters today.

Trial will last ~60 hours (or as long as it takes the proper authorities to question the teachers in-game).

Ghosty boi Floyd comically floats above the floor, shimmering in outrage.

"I was betrayed! One of my closest friends sought my demise! I'll haunt you, headhunter! I won't ever let you sleep until the end of your days, and then I'll chase you into the afterlife!"

A moment later, he seemed to calm down, affixing a mirthless smile onto his transparent face. "Memories, memories… I remember nothing! Today I woke up a pale ghost, and for strange plot convenience reasons I can't remember how I died."

[Hansbulla]

"We were classmates, ghost, in Classroom B. You, me, and Lunick. It was in that class that I received a letter in my desk, imploring me to capture the basement creatures for a test of courage. And I am most definitely courageous. Yes, I captured a Bidoof and then conquered the darkness below, laying claim to the souls of the Gastly and Zubat. Of the Captured Pokemon, I demonstrate my prowess over these three!

Ukelele Pichu strums his instrument before starting to speak.

"Hello everyone, it's your fellow student! I'm a human, as you can see!"

He does seem about the same height as a human, and is wearing a suspicious trench coat. 

"Anyway, I also received a letter asking me to clean the bedrooms before tonight's slumber party. I... did not do it, though."

He gives his ukelele another strum and smiles.

[Tetsu]

Axel tips his cap.

"Howdy. If it's the letters, I did receive on too on my desk...it states to decorate the Student Lounge with flowers. But...thing is, who would betray Floyd? I mean we are all just starting today...right? Or was it not right?"

He scratches his cap.

[Hansbulla]

"According to the Teachers' Alibis, they wrote no letters. So these must be the work of the fool who killed Floyd, and they will be hiding under the excuse of having received a letter and doing its work."

"If you didn't go to the bedrooms where did you go after we received our stylers?"

He then looked at everyone

"I also received a letter asking to clean the Pledge Stone for tonight’s pledge ceremony"

Ghost Floyd waves his arms energetically above his head. “Was that a confession? Around what time did you ‘clean’ the stone?” He pauses for an awkward moment, before asking tentatively, “err, what ceremony?”

Brushing his ghostly hand against his chin, Floyd adds, “An extra Capture Styler was missing from the storage inventory, right? Perhaps the culprit took it! Empty out your pockets, everyone!”

"Yes, it would also make sense they took it ahead of time when they planted the letters."



"If we follow what we found of Floyd's Body, then a creature must have paralyzed him. We know the School Styler will relinquish control after the beast attacks. The suspect Pokemon are the electric types, and if any of us were in a room where they naturally dwell and saw their return, then we can determine the time of the killing. Well? Any takers?"

"I will say that right after class I went and looked in the Main Hall and found the Pichu absent."

“After receiving my styler, I went to the training room to capture the Pikachu that was there. I needed to assert my dominance as the ultimate capture practice Pokémon. After that, I went to the main outdoors, where I found no Bidoof, but I did catch a Pichu there.”

"The Strange Letter commanded the departed to meet in the Main Outdoors, where there are 3 Bidoof, who were perhaps captured by the culprit or the victim. This lines up with the Captured Pokemon since I have the fourth. We can know these Bidoof are from the Main Outdoors because the Crime Scene Bidoof are where they should be. We should note the Bidoof were likely not used to attack since they are still captured."

"Classmates (minus you, ghost), I request that you provide your whereabouts prior to class. I myself went into the Basement Hallway at first and was intimidated by the creatures there. Afterwards, I went to the Bedroom seemingly before anyone else."

“I was…” Pichu closes his eyes solemnly. Is it time to confess…?

“I stole a styler from the staff room to catch 2 Pichu with. You see… I am not a human after all… I am simply three Pokémon in a trench coat… and my original two helpers were the 2 Pichu from the main hall. That was right before class.”

"Prior to classes I was in the library with Floyd and that's where I found out about the secret room in the pledge stone. I was actually quite satisfied when I got a letter saying I needed to help clean that place as I was able to enter it!"
