Outside of the eerie eyes, there does not seem to be anything of import about the statue that Maddox can tell.
The ghosts jump in alarm. They're not protecting it, they're waiting to go through. Regardless, various body parts seem to vanish on most of them for a brief moment before returning. Two--the ones hit with yellow--don't lose anything.
Moving on, he approaches the fat man in the room known as the hermit. Seeing some semblance to the man in robe from picture he saw, almost instinctively the first thing he did was spun around and give a hard roundhouse kick across the man's face.
After noticing what he did, instead of apologizing he just went ahead and kicks down the man, stepping on him.
“I'm sorry, did it hurt? Well that's nothing compared to what you did to all these people ain't it? From the riddle Ishigami told me and from your journal, I presume you are Andrew? Well then, bishop, I only have one question for you."
“Why? Why torment your own son, why push him to madness and made him throw his humanity?”
The Hermit goes back and forth between whimpering and laugh as he attempts to curl up and protect himself from the attack. "No, no, I was punished again. He... heh.... hehee..." He struggles under Ken's feet and desperately flails for a few moment before finally giving up in exhaustion, his body too deformed to do anything. "Torment... torment. I was tormented... hee... hee... I turned him into a GOD... a Savior... a Phantom... an all powerful being. I gave him a GIFT! No torment... no torment... made him not useless. Stupid kid."
