"A Snake in the Grass" Game 65 (#2): Trial 1

After everyone collects what they can from the rooms, and Jay is tended to, you are lead out to the yard by the deer robot. It prances to a stop in the middle of the yard, where several podiums have appeared. They each have bullet proof glass on the sides, and the deer stands in front of them before addressing everyone.

"During this trial, you will be kept safe inside of these podiums! By willingly entering them, you are agreeing to take part in the trial, and risk your lives to find the culprit!"

As each of you step into your podium, a bullet proof glass panel slides up behind you, closing you in. The only open part of the container is the front- as the top has a metal plate.  If there were another glass panel at the front, you think that it might be air tight. In total, there are eleven podiums.

On each of your podiums is a monitor, displaying the rules of the trial, as well as a poll with each person's name.  It's a touch screen- so touching it will place a vote on that person.

Prison Trials

1. During a trial, you will all stand at a podium within a bullet proof glass container. Attempting to leave the podium will result in severe punishment. The front of the podium, facing towards the center, will not have glass.

2. You must present evidence you have found and use that as well as testimonies in the trial.

3. RULE CHANGE-- After everyone has voted, the player(s) who received the most votes will be executed. In the event of a tie, all players with the highest vote count will be executed.


4. All survivors who make it to the final floor of the building will be able to leave, and have questions answered.

For my evidence, as Kazuichi can confirm, I first found a frying pan missing (I could only tell by the dust) and there were a bunch of footsteps in the kitchen. One specific pair I followed that went deep into the kitchen and then into the bathroom, where it appeared as though it went into a stall.

Having taken some time to collect his thoughts before the trial, Kazuichi was now thinking a bit more clearly. His main focus was on collecting evidence to find Galvin's killer, as he still felt bad about the fact that the protectorate they were supposed to form with Mikan was a colossal failure that ultimately cost him his life.

"Well, yeah. The kitchen was missing two knives and something round with a handle on it, but do you have any reason to say that it's a frying pan? And why did you not mention the knives?"

He muttered to himself as he recalled some evidence from the doctor's office.

"Hey, Mikan. Did you take any ibuprofen from the doctor's office at any point? Some of that was missing, so I think it's important to figure out what happened to it."

It just is what it looked like by the dust.
OOC: It was suggested by Haruhi that the missing item (as per the imprint in the dust) was a frying pan.

OOC: Ahh. I wasn't given the same information, so it was really difficult to establish something like that.

"Yeah, I guess it did look kinda like a frying pan now that you mention it. He died from a stab wound though, right? Or something like that. So I don't know what the killer would've done with a frying pan unless they knocked him out... but carrying that around would look super suspicious."

She looked disappointed that Galvin was dead even though she never liked him.

"I was in the yard all night but Arcas came in at 10pm and at the same moment there was female laughter through the intercoms which sounded malicious. I thought I was going to die so I didn't do anything but he left after 2 minutes so I'm okay."

"Galvin and I were in the kitchen last night. He gave me a candle so I could see what was goin' on. Then Arckas showed up and when he saw us, he totally turned around and left immediately. I tried to follow him, but... he got pissed at me for it. So I went to bed before any other trouble got started."

"Alright, I suppose I'll give an overview of both Jay and Galvin, since I checked Galvin's body alongside Trigger."

"Galvin was stabbed in the heart and a knife was left in his left leg. Based on this examination, his killer was most likely right-handed. He also had a faint mint smell on his corpse, and his body was propped against his candelabra. I'm assuming that Galvin had some mint candles on him contributed to that smell..."

"A-Afterwards, I checked Jay's wounds, and he had some bruises on the back of his head, a bruise on the left side of his face, and a stab wound above his kneecap on the outside of his right leg. Jay also was wearing a duffel bag, although I wasn't able to see what was inside of it."

"For my own reasons, I believe that the culprit was Maarku. I highly believe Kazuichi did return to his cell along with Aqua, since I went there myself later in the night. I then went to the Warden's Office and set off an alarm. After doing so, there were a select list of people that showed up. They were Hero, Jun, Maarku, Kazuichi, and Arckas. However, by this point, I believe the culprit had already knocked out Jay and killed Galvin, which is why there is only one possibility for what happened."

 "One of these people is likely Galvin's killer. They knocked out Jay and killed Galvin using a frying pan and a few knives (the leg stab came first while Galvin was standing, so he wasn't drugged before he was killed). However, before this, it is highly likely Jay was knocked out first. The first knife was found in Galvin's leg, but the stab wound to his torso came from a different knife, one that the killer most likely took with them."

"I visited the supply room myself, but it was too dark for me to notice anything noteworthy. My best guess is that Jay was unconscious somewhere in the room along with Galvin."

"This culprit also made a scream when they shouldn't have been capable of making one that late at night, especially considering that the lights in that room were out, so they wouldn't even see the bodies! Isn't that right, Maarku? I know for a fact I couldn't see anything in that supply room since it was pitch dark, so how in the world did you discover the bodies?! Also, if I remember correctly, you took a vacuum cleaner from the supply room earlier in the day, so you were familiar with the layout of that room."

"I can attest to what Mikan said. Galvin and I were in the storage room. We blocked the door with some cardboard stuff. For some reason he insisted on using candles. Anyways, I was gathering supplies, a rope and some duct tape, in my duffel when suddenly someone started banging on the door. I warned Galvin not to let him inside, but the guy barged in anyways. I quickly tried putting out the candles to obstruct the killer's view but it was no use. The guy tried to cut me and I resisted, but it was no use. They smashed my head into the shelf and I passed out. When I woke up, Galvin was dead and I thought I would bleed out. Which is when everyone found us and started rushing in. Unfortunately, due to my wounds, I couldn't even move, so I didn't get a chance to investigate."

"Th-The ibuprofen was taken?! I only took some disinfectant to help with Jay's wounds, but that was after Galvin's body was discovered...But I distinctly remember it being there in the morning..."

"Those are some heavy-duty painkillers. I wonder...if Jay took them, it may have been possible for him to move around for a little bit after being wounded. That could have given him the opportunity to commit this murder and dispose of one of the knives..."

"Did anyone visit the infirmary later in the night that can help narrow down a timeframe of the ibuprofen being taken?"

"I'll go ahead and give my own summary of what I discovered. In the end, I check the body and the storage room. First I'll submit everything I know for fact"

"For Galvin's body, there was a stab wound on the left side of his chest, directly penetrating the heart and another on his leg. He died on his back, with a smile planted on his face. The blood from the stab wound dripped from the wound down to the sides of his clothing. There was a candelabra on his back where he lay, and he smelled of mint. Candles all around.

Since the stab wound on the leg trickled down the leg, he was definitely standing when the leg when the wound was inflicted. He was stabbed while on the ground, considering the blood flowing down his sides.

The candelabra was bent horribly. Away from his body, another (less exotic) wasn't as horribly bent.

The body is facing the left side of the room, if you were to prop him up.

The killer tried pulled himself forward using the weapon as leverage. The knife on the leg was not the same as the knife on the heart."



Trigger changes gears in his head

"Now for the storage room, again, submitting as fact.

No dust in the room. Less so notably from the kitchen. In front of the door, there were boxes blocking it but not completely."

((I just discovered that Galvin had ibuprofen pills inside of his pocket, so it appears that he was the one that took them from the Doctor's Office. However, I recall seeing Kazuichi entering the Infirmary before I went into the Warden's Office, and Galvin was still alive at that point. Make of that knowledge what you will, but Kazuichi had the opportunity to take the ibuprofen.))

"Were all the candles mint scented?"
"If so, who held candles and who didn't? I never held a candle."

Maarku finally finished his thoughts and raised his head, clearing his throat.

"My my, Miss, you're already blaming me? Well, I suppose I should give my alibi to the night, before revealing the results of my investigation," he said coldly.

"I headed to my cell for the night. I in fact did not leave until the siren went off from the warden's office, which then I promptly went there, seeing Mikan, Eden, and Jun already there. Staying out of their way, I heard two things: an unidentifiable scream in the distance, and a male scream for help down the hall, in the direction of the kitchen. After that, I ran towards the scream and rallied you fools."

He gave a smug grin, his scarred eye only making it more diabolic.

"It is true, I visited the storage room during the day. I moved things so that potential killers would have a hard time finding tools to weaponize, which included the vacuum cleaner. Thanks to my knowledge of the room's contents during the day, I investigated it after the murder. It was quite tidy, despite my best efforts yesterday to mess it up. Cleaned and organized, even," he paused, gathering his thoughts.

"There were boxes stacked near and in front of the door, and some in the corner. I do not recall them being in that position the last time I visited. Scuffs marks on the ground gave it away to me that they were being pushed, perhaps. Though... looking at the stack in front of the door-I assume it was a hasty barricade?- It looked quite unfinished. The strange part is the door opens from the inside. I also found that some duct tape, rope, and a duffel bag were taken from some boxes. I assume Jay was the one who took them."

Nearly done with his testimonial monologue, Maarku continued. "I also investigated the hallway leading to the warden's office and the cells. There was candle wax smeared on the walls, leading to the cells. Minty. I headed back to the storage room when I recognized it being present there. The smell was evident in two places: Where Jay was, and from the crushed candle-holster under the victim. I saw three candles in the back, unlit. There seemed to be smoke rising from them, however."

He finished it off with a chilling stare at Mikan. "Still think it's me, narttu?"

"That's not my point. I'm curious as to how you could have seen anything, since I had left that supply room and went to the Doctor's Office. I heard the scream when I was leaving for my cell. From what I can remember when I entered the supply room, it was pitch dark. My question to you is how did you discover Galvin's body? Was there some sort of light source or reflection that directed you to it, because the lights in the supply room were in fact off when I went in there shortly before..."

"I don't want to believe you're the killer, but since I know this important fact, I'd like you to answer it. If you're truly innocent, then it shouldn't be a problem to explain, right? And also, you just stated that Galvin's candles were unlit. Please bear that in mind when responding..."
