"I think it's important, but I just don't know!"

Byakuya pushes up his glasses and glares. 

"If you must know, my night was going just fine until these fools began harassing me and asking inane questions. I've already discussed the starchy water such that the necessary deductions should be obvious, but as you said ... the lot of you just don't know when an important clue is in front of your nose. 

"Since you fools seem to be getting nowhere fast, I suppose I can shed some more light on my investigation, only one more time. Don't make me repeat myself again, or we'll be solving your murder next. 

"For those of you with the attention span of a goldfish, I investigated the Infirmary/Princess Peach's Room and smelled melted plastic in the medicine cabinet, where some medicine bottles had had their labels melted off. As I've said, the substance within had no medicinal smell, and tasted like starchy water. 

"... I held off revealing this information before, but I'll say it now - the starchy water had red food colouring in it. Yes ... almost like a red syrup. There were several bottles of this in the medicine cabinet, with their labels melted off and the seal beneath the cap still intact. Obviously, I immediately deduced that one of these bottles was taken and used in the red wine, and the others were melted so that we wouldn't know what they were. Of course I knew this from the start I did NOT just think of it now.

"I'll tell you about the rest of my investigation, since you all need me to spell everything out for you. I found a skeleton, dressed in the Dead King's robes - I held back on this to catch him in a lie, but now he's freely admitted to having been in that room and, well, we can all see he's naked. There was also a bed which had been slept in, but I assumed that was just used by one of you plebians, having never seen a proper bed before and wanting to experience the life of the wealthy. 

"Well, then? Have I spelled it out clearly enough for all of you? You can sort out the confusion on your own. My time is far too valuable to repeat myself."

Shy Guy slipped that medicine into the wine himself and specifically cooked the braised beef pasta using grapefruit so that he could ensure he died from it without making it too obvious. Who else would put citrus fruit in a beef pasta dish?

“The only question now is what that red syrup actually is. Starchy water? But it would have to be medicine of some kind. There’s some left, right? Can we taste it? Or maybe Princess Peach knows what they are, since they’re in her room?

“If I had to guess, it’s a cardiovascular drug ‘cause mixing those with grapefruit can cause a stroke, which he obviously had. Look at that silly face!”

Nursing a headache from all the shouting (and possibly the weird syruped wine), Keziah does her best to think through the facts.

The red wine's got that syrup we're in a tizzy about, and it's possible the prickly pears've got some kinda medicinal quality to 'em. But fact is, the victim ordered the white wine—so whether there's a poisoned syrup, or a poisoned meal with a prickly pear antidote, Shy Guy intended to have neither! Well, unless..."


She thinks for a moment.


"We each got one serving of each meal, except... we could order drinks as much as we wanted, yeah? Somebody said drinks were open, and I quote, 'all the time, baby'? I got plenty of soda pop 'cause it tastes nice, but I never asked if I coulda had somethin' else. Could we switch our drink order halfway through?"

"Those others who were cookin', or at least in the kitchen, how'd that red wine get prepared? Was a big ol' cask of white wine turned red with syrup, or didja mix 'em one by one?"

Squeaks looks at the chaos before him, shaking his head (entire body) and shouting

"We are indeed running out of hours my friends, we need to solve this post-haste. Now I have a few theories as to what queries we know the solution to. Let us go down the list, shall we.

Query 1. Shy's unofficial cause of death. By our thorough investigation into the scene of the crime and Shy's cadaver, I believe we can conclude our dear friend was poisoned by way of food or drink.

Query 2. Shy's official cause of death. From an official, trained professional standpoint. The accounts we have heard here today conclude that the cause of death was asphyxiation due to the aforementioned poisoning.

Query 3. Shy's reason for being targeted. I do not believe we have an answer for this as of yet.

Query 4. When did Shy perish. I believe Shy began his journey to Oblivion right as dinner had started, given that, on discovery, his body was only an hour or two old.

Query 5. Why were orders swapped. There are two possibilities here. they were swapped to either 1) poison Shy or 2) create a red herring to throw us all off course.

Query 6. Who is the murderer. The answer to this is still unknown to us.

Query 7. What is the Red Goop. The red wine was revealed to be alcoholic white wine dyed red. Now, Shy did drink this but was not the only one to do so. I believe the Red Syrup was some medicine from the newly opened Infirmary. Specifically, some type of cough syrup to induce drowsiness among other wild and fantastical symptoms. The "Red Wine" was actually the deadly concoction know to us in the Criminal Underworld as Lean

Query 8. Why did only Shy perish, This was due to one of two possibilities. These are 1) Shy's food or drink were directly poisoned or 2) specific meals were poisoned and everyone aside from Shy had some sort of antidote to counteract the toxin

Query 9. Who was the true target and why. I do not know the answer to this, however it all depends on which part of our dinner was poisoned. If it was any food item, the target could be anyone who had the same dish as our late friend. If it was the drink, the target was anyone who had the Lean, or it was an attempt to take the life of Her Royal Mycelius.

And finally Query 10. Exactly what was poisoned and what was it poisoned with. Fro what i have seen this is unknown. We do indeed have a general area to start with as it had to be something that Shy had eaten or drank during dinner. The poison itself had to have been able to cause stroke, seizure and asphyxiation. The scary old woman with that dreadful dog, did point out its similarity to the poison found inside Fugu, one of the fish in the Nigiri platter. This could possibly be the culprit.

Now then, this is a lot of hypothesis and some guesswork, but I would like to see if there is anymore information we can add to add more groundwork and deduce a solid conclusion. If it helps, I believe the culprit has to be one of the cooks or servers as they had prime opportunity to tamper with anyone's meals."

“I don’t see how he could’ve died from the nigiri when others had it and are fine, even without that prickly pear stuff. This is why my grapefruit theory makes sense; grapefruit and cough suppressants can cause seizures, which the victim had according to body investigators. That’s a common medication that would be in any infirmary. Oh, and I’m pretty sure during a seizure you can asphyxiate on spit or your own tongue and suffocate. That’s how my second wife died.
