"Sigh... You guys are so pathetic... All this talk about hope and despairand OOC chatter bores me so much it makes me sick... Like I said, I don't care if you despise me and I don't care what happens to you guys at the end of all this because no matter what happens, I will come out of this alive."
"Anyway. I won't bother you guys with my presence any longer and will just leave you all to do whatever you want with your pathetic lives with the little time you have left before the cycle of death once again takes the life of another unfortunate soul..."
"Oh and don't even dare try to follow me..."
She glances at Akama and stared coldly at him before leaving the room...
In my experience as the blackened in this game, I can tell you that being the blackened is SUFFERING and this isn't an exaggeration. I mean at the time I was blackened, I had to deal with 23 other people all moving around at the same time and the small map didn't help either so I felt that under these conditions, it was almost impossible to commit murder without being spotted by others. Even Jay admitted he didn't like the system he used and that he didn't expect to have this many players so it was hindsight on his part. He even considered changing the whole system for this for game because of that but I told him to stick with the current system since it would reflect badly on the hosts if they suddenly change the whole game while its still ongoing so he still continued using this system. However, he had to "pull some strings" sort to speak to give some breathing space for the blackened to commit their murder and as others have said create "mystery" for the innocents.
One example of this was when Ishimaru was guarding the hallway all night and was my biggest obstacle but Jay told me that he did something that would get rid of him though he never really told me how but because of that, I was able to slip through the hallway and enter the Laundry Room without being seen. Another case of "Deus ex Machina" as I would call it was the choice of victim since by the time I was setting up my murder in the Laundry Room, no one else had any actions to go directly to the Laundry Room which would have mean't I wouldn't have been able to murder anyone for that night. So Jay gave me the choice to make either Tetsuya or Deli as my victim (Probably since the 2 of them happen to be passing by the hallway near the Laundry Room at the time) and so I choose Tetsu as my victim (Cuz the curse must live on! XD). And so Jay made it that Tetsu entered the Laundry Room because I was making noises from inside to attract his attention (I didn't even state this as my action) and so I was able to do my thing. Lastly. When I was going to smash the security console in the AV Room, Benite happened to be there as well and I would have knocked him out myself if he had seen me but Jay made it easier for me and just knocked out Benite himself using sleeping gas (Though I wasn't even aware that Benite was sleeping in the AV Room until the trial started...).
So yes. A lot of Deus ex Machina had been pulled in this game and while some may call this BS, I understood where Jay was coming from and that he had to do what was necessary to balance things between the blackened and the innocents which is actually a lot harder to do than you think because hosts shouldn't make things too easy or too difficult for all parties involved. Although as an MMG player and for those of you who haven't heard. MMG is Murder Mystery Games which is another forum I frequent where we host games similar to DRG but use a lot more complicated system and let me just tell you that its a lot more difficult to commit murder in MMG than in DRG since we don't apply "Deus ex Machina" during murders. Like if you stab someone with a knife, you will ALWAYS be covered in blood no what you do and people CAN still see you covered in blood so you actually have to try to clean yourself while trying to avoid being seen by others. People can also defend themselves when they are being attacked and have a chance to hold them off and potentially kill their attacker. People can also walk in on the killer setting up a trap or is in the middle of murdering someone. So yeah. If you want to murder in MMG without being caught, You need to be extra careful in every step you take and make contingency plans in case something goes wrong and need to suddenly adjust your plan to deal with the current situation. Even still. MMG still has its own fair share of issues on how to balance murders and trials and we are constantly trying out new things to address these issues. Though let me be clear that I'm not saying MMG is better than DRG since both sites are very different from each other despite the similarities but I'm just trying to make a comparison between them and offer some insights which could help make future improvements for the DRG system and make them more balanced but enjoyable to everyone at the same time.
EDIT: Oh yeah one more thing I'd like to add is that I did have contact with Jay on Skype when I was planning my murder but just to make some clarifications on certain things. He also allowed me to sent him my actions via Skype though I still sent my actions via forum PM since he says it just makes things more organized for him.
